Taunton man Robert Wright, 28, dies after short illness

Somerset County Gazette: Robert Wright. Robert Wright.

THE broken-hearted family of a young man who died after a short illness are burying him “back home”.

Robert Wright, 28, was expecting to go home from hospital following treatment for a long-term condition when he succumbed to pneumonia.

He died within days with his family at his bedside at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital.

His mother, Ashley Rich, said: “He was so weak his body just couldn’t take it.

“He had such a big heart and had so many friends.

“He loved life, loved his music and was always playing his guitar.

“We’re all going to miss him so much. It’s left a big hole and taken part of us away.

“He was the gentlest person you could ever meet and if anything happened, he was always the sensible one. He was very loved by everyone.”

Robert, who lived in Lambrook Road, Taunton, was planning to move back home to Norton Fitzwarren with his mother and her husband, Bill.

He had worked as a chef in many kitchens – he became interested in cooking when he cycled to the Allerford Inn as a student at the former Ladymead School, in Taunton.

“He used to cook for us – it was a bit of a joke about how much mess he made in the kitchen,” said Mrs Rich.

“We were looking forward to having him back home, but it wasn’t to be.

“His funeral is in Norton Fitzwarren Church, where he’ll be buried – so he is coming back home in a way.”

Robert’s funeral at All Saints Church, Norton Fitzwarren, is at 2pm tomorrow (Friday), with the arrangements by Nigel K. Ford.
