DEVON Liberal Democrats have today 'called-in' Devon County Council’s decision to close 20 residential care homes and 17 day centres across the county, announced yesterday.

Responding to the widespread concern and anguish that has resulted from the Conservative's decision, the 'call-in' will allow much greater scrutiny of the decision and the process behind it, says Cllr Alan Connett, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Devon County Council.

Lib Dem councillors, along with Cllr Frank Biederman, Independent, have cited nine reasons for closer scrutiny of the closure plans.

The challenge will now go to a meeting of the county council's Peoples Scrutiny committee where councillors will have the opportunity to ask more detailed questions about the plans and make alternative recommendations.
