A SPECIALLY commissioned steam train brought a touch of magic to 660 Somerset Brownies over the weekend as they took to the West Somerset Railway to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Brownie Guides.
The 2884 Class heavy freight engine, more used to pulling coal or minerals, coupled nine carriages to carry the Brownies on the hour-long journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead for the day with half of them taken on the Saturday and half on the Sunday.
Chief Guide Gill Slocombe and South-West Region Chief Commissioner Solange Rebours joined the girls, who came from across Taunton, Milverton, Ruishton and North Curry.
When they arrived they were welcomed by flag-waving Brownies from Minehead and Alcombe, who joined them on the beach for a giant picnic.
