A MAN who was badly hurt after a car hit a wall in Norton Fitzwarren has died in hospital, police announced today.

The County Gazette reported how the main road through the village was shut for several hours on Friday, after the collision at the bottom of Rectory Road at around 1.20pm.

Two people were in the car – an elderly woman driving and an elderly male passenger.

The woman suffered an arm injury but the man was more seriously hurt, and had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters.

Both were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

A police spokesman said this morning: “The car was travelling towards Norton Fitzwarren from the Wiveliscombe direction when it was in collision with the wall of a property.

“The passenger in the car – aged 87 - suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Musgrove Park Hospital, where he died yesterday (Monday) evening at about 5.30pm. “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have information to help our enquiries.”
