A MAN was airlifted to hospital after suffering injuries when a car hit a tree near Taunton.
The incident happened on Red Lane, Churchinford, this morning when the vehicle hit the tree and rolled on its side, with the man trapped inside.
Fire crews were called to assist the injured driver and stabilise the vehicle by using cutting gear.
The damaged vehicle was then winched out of the trees to allow fire and air ambulance crews to gain access to the casualty.
A police spokesman said: “At around 9.40am we were informed of a collision at Churchinford where a car had hit a tree.
"A man was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with swollen knees and a hip injury.”
