KEEN athletes from across Somerset took part in the first Minehead triathlon in 14 years.

Last Saturday, juniors took part in the event at Butlin’s showing off their skills in water, on a bike and a run.

They also took part in a relay race.

This was followed by the seniors event on Sunday which saw athletes experienced and novice, complete a 400m swim, a 23km bike ride from Butlin’s to Porlock and back, finishing with a 5k run along the seafront to Culvercliffe and back.

The Minehead Merlins Go- Ride club also held a practice race session alongside the junior triathlon.

Members had to complete timed laps round a pre-set course followed by seeded races in preparation for the Go-Ride Tour de France Event.

This is being held in Tesco car park on July 6 from 4.30pm.

All cyclists under 13 are being invited to take part.
