EFFORTS are underway to identify a person killed after being hit by a train.
The victim died in the incident between Taunton Station and Cogload Junction shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday.
Train services were delayed after the accident involving the Glasgow to Paignton train.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Officers from BTP and Avon and Somerset Police attended the railway line near Taunton railway station on Saturday, June, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
“The incident was reported to BTP at 2.23pm and is being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the South Western Ambulance Service also attended and a body was located.
"The person had injuries consistent with having been hit by a train and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the person’s identity and contact their next of kin.
“A file is being prepared for the Coroner.”
