AN arson attack which damaged a new Astroturf pitch and equipment at a school in Taunton has cost the developer “a significant” amount.

The pitch at Bishop Fox’s School will be opened in September when the developer formally hands it over the school, and repairs have now been made to the site.

The incident took place before May half-term and the school carried out an internal investigation as well as one completed by the police.

Head teacher Paul Scutt said: “The pitch is all sorted now. There were significant costs involved as the surface came from Belgium and they had to get new carpet to lay down.”

He added: “We are satisfied with the outcome of our investigation.”

He said: “This is something which has cost half a million pounds and will be used for the school and community’s benefit.

“It’s never understandable or nice when someone carries out unnecessary damage like this.”
