TWO high street stores are to be built on a business park on the outskirts of Wellington.

Costa Coffee and sandwich giant Subway will be built alongside a new petrol station and mini-supermarket at Westpark 26 at Chelston, creating 16 full-time jobs.

Summerfield's plans for the hub of outlets, as well as a car wash, have been approved by Taunton Deane Council and work is expected to start in the autumn.

Ben Trickey, senior development surveyor at Summerfield, said: “This is an excellent location for a new petrol filling station.

“The breadth of the offering for commuters on the A38 and on both Chelston and Westpark business parks is a great boost to both Wellington and the area.

“With the Skylark pub and the Travelodge hotel already established on site, the facilities are of great benefit to the local and regional economy.”

The mini-supermarket will be built in to the filling station and developers this week released a computer generated image of what the site could look like.

Work on the facility is expected to last for 16 weeks and a recruitment process will start during construction.

John Williams, leader of Taunton Deane Council, said: “Once again, the growth of Westpark 26 is a clear indication of the strength of the economy here.

“We've been working with Summerfield and listening to businesses that are keen to plant roots in the area and are providing all the necessary elements to ensure success for ambitious businesses.”
