FOUR women in their forties and fifties were among those injured in last night's crash, the South Western Ambulance Service has further clarified.

An on-call doctor from the Somerset Accident Voluntary Emergency Service (SAVES) assisted emergency services at the scene.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "The four females were complaining of back, neck and chest injuries.

"They were all what is known as priority two, which means the injuries are serious, but not time-critical, so not thought to be life-threatening.

"In the other vehicle was a male in his thirties, and a child, a girl, in the back of the vehicle.

"The child in the back of the vehicle was fully alert and was found to have suffered a bruise on her face.

"The man was complaining of lower back pain and head pain. Again, his injuries were considered a priority two: serious, but not time-critical."

ONE of the patients involved in last night's collision was a child, a spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service has told the County Gazette.

She said: "We got the call last night at 7.42pm reporting a two-vehicle head-on collision.

“We had 13 ambulance resources at the scene, six of which were our normal ambulances.

“We also had a doctor on the scene and our hazard area response team, who are specialist paramedics who can begin treatment in hazardous areas, i.e. while fire crews are beginning their work.

“There were 6 patients in total, one of them was a child.

“The child and father went in one ambulance together to Musgrove.”

POLICE reopened the road at 1.43am this morning, after closing it at Rumwell.

The collision involved a blue BMW and a black Peugeot 207.

A spokesman clarified: "The collision took place outside the Hungry Horse at Stonegallows.

"We are appealing for anybody who witnessed the collision to get in touch on the non-emergency police number 101."

A FURTHER update from Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has clarified that three out of six casualties involved in tonight's crash are being treated at Musgrove Park Hospital for serious injuries.

The fire service spokesman said: "Two rescue engines and a rescue tender from Taunton attended the scene.

"No one was physically trapped on arrival, so we didn't need to employ cutting equipment.

"We worked to assist the ambulance, make the vehicles safe, and deal with the fuel spillage in the road.

"There were six casualties in total, three with serious injuries, who have been transported to Musgrove.

"The road will be closed for some time pending police investigation."

More information to follow in the morning (Tuesday July 8).

ONE casualty has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following what has been confirmed by police as a two-vehicle crash on the A38 at Stonegallows tonight.

"We can clarify that following enquiries, the collision is believed to have been between two vehicles, although a number of people are believed to have been injured," a police spokesman said.

"One of the occupants is believed to have serious injuries and is being treated in hospital.

"The road will remain closed while police conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

"It will be closed for the remainder of the evening."
