NICK Chapman’s appointment as chairman of The Castle at Taunton will ensure things stay in the family.

Nick takes over from his father, Kit, who inherited the hot seat from his father, Peter, who arrived at the hotel in 1950.

Sales and marketing director Sarah Berry has been given a seat on the board, alongside director and general manager Marc Mac Closkey, finance director Jon Peilow, husband and wife Kit and Louise Chapman, who have stepped down from day-to-day involvement, and independent non-executive director David Coubrough.

Nick Chapman, who was educated at Taunton School and Oxford Brookes University, said: “I grew up with The Castle – it’s one of Taunton and Somerset’s great institutions with over 1,000 years of history."

He credited his father with putting The Castle on the international map by attracting a succession of Michelin-starred chefs and initiatives such as music weekends.

Kit Chapman said: “Succession management can be tricky in a family business, but with us it has been seamless.”
