REPAIR work following a massive diesel spill which closed the A38 Wellington relief road, resulting in traffic chaos, will continue well into today, says Somerset County Council.
Somerset County Council Highways teams are resurfacing a quarter of a mile of the road between Hoyles Road and Swains Lane which has been closed since lunchtime yesterday (Tuesday July 8) following the spill from a fuel tanker.
The aim is for the road to be reopened this evening, depending on the full extent of the damage.
Work on another road in the county has been postponed to allow highways to tackle the A38 immediately.
Motorists can expect high levels of traffic through Wellington town centre today and are advised to avoid and use the motorway instead if possible.
