Design a flag for Exmoor

Somerset County Gazette: Design a flag for Exmoor Design a flag for Exmoor

A PROJECT to create an official flag for Exmoor is gathering pace.

Dozens of people have entered a competition to design the flag, ranging from a 93-year-old woman in Devon to a two-year-old girl from Brushford, near Dulverton, who has drawn an Exmoor Pony.

The Exmoor Flag Project Team is on the hunt for the winning design and is reminding people that entries can be submitted until Monday, July 21.

Julie Christian said: “The important thing is to get across your idea on your design.

“It doesn’t matter if it is drawn with crayons, pencils or professionally produced on a whizzy computer programme.

“All entries will be judged on their interpretation of Exmoor onto a flag and the finalists will be graphically treated to ensure an even playing field when put forward to the public vote in August.”

A judging panel will be overseen by Philip Tibbetts, the community vexillologist for the Flag Institute, which is endorsing the competition.

The winning flag will be registered with the Flag Institute to be flown forever more as a symbol of Exmoor.

See exmoorflag.co.uk for an entry form and design guidelines.
