RESIDENTS in Willand have been doing their bit for local wildlife with the rescue of an injured bat.

Concerned residents in Willand Moor were surprised to find a small bat lying on a garden path unable to fly.

Bats are a protected species within the UK and are regularly seen by residents bordering Quicks Farm field during the late evenings of the summer months.

Colin and Greta contacted Sylvia Bevis of the 'Devon Bat Group' for advice, and placed the bat on their shed roof which was warm from the day's sunshine to provide some heat.

It was suggested that a shoe box furnished with a duster on which it can hang be provided, with a little water made available.

Fortunately, the warmth of the shed roof did the trick on the bat was on its way.
