Detectives are hunting for a burglar who broke into an elderly woman’s home in Plymouth and stole around £25,000 worth of rings.

Fifteen valuable rings were taken from the bedroom of the 65-year-old’s flat which is within sheltered accommodation for the elderly in the Stonehouse area.

The offender gained entry to the flat through the front door sometime between 4pm on Friday 18 July and 10.15am the next day.

Once inside the burglar made a search of the bedroom and removed the rings from jewellery boxes.

Taken were 10 gold rings containing various stones, two platinum diamond rings, a white gold diamond ring, and two diamond rings.

Among the stolen items was a distinctive gold ring with 100 rubies and diamonds around the entire band and valued at £7,500.

Detectives are appealing for information from anyone who has information about the burglary or anyone who may have been offered the jewellery for sale.
