MORE than 200 primary and secondary students enjoyed a day of outdoor fun and waterbased activities in Taunton’s Longrun Meadow.
The event involved skills ranging from medieval swords to raft building and orienteering and gave the youngsters a taste of what will be on offer from the proposed Centre for Outdoor Activities and Community Hub.
Chairman Ian Payne said the charity hopes shortly to start building the facility in French Weir on the site of the existing public toilets.
COACH, which aims to encourage healthy and active lifestyles by offering canoeing and rowing tasters and training out of temporary containers at Firepool, has applied for more than £450,000 funding from Sport England and is also getting support from Taunton Deane and Somerset County Councils.
