FORMER school mates are planning a challenge they’ll never forget – walking 54 miles in 24 hours.

Harriet Cuthbert, from Wiveliscombe town centre, and Hayley Coleman, from Tewkesbury, dreamed up their Peak District hike on September 6 and 7 on “a crazy day”.

They are already in training and are tackling the 21-mile Wivey Way trail this weekend.

“Neither of us has ever walked that far before,” said Harriet, 27, who works in outdoor education at Nettlecombe Court.

“We both enjoy walking, but 10 miles is normally my maximum – the longest I’ve ever done till now is 20 miles.

“We just had a crazy day and decided to do something we wouldn’t forget for a while.”

Harriet is walking at every opportunity in a bid to get fit for the marathon effort, which will raise funds for the Calvert Trust, which provides outdoor activities for disabled people.

She said: “We’re both excited yet very nervous about the event and we’re expecting to end up with very sore limbs.”
