TAUNTON paid its respects on the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
A service of commemoration at St Mary Magdalene Church was among a number of events to mark the occasion yesterday, Monday, August 4.
Among the congregation was Veronica Roach, who later lit her own candle to rember the 10,939 people from Somerset who died in the conflict.
Later in the evening people across the area put out their lights as a mark of respect - and Alexander Davidson caught the mood with his photo in Blagdon Hill.
