WORKERS from Hinkley Point have raised thousands for charities SURE and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The employees gathered after work to complete a fun run from their base to the village of Cannington, near Bridgwater.

The first person to cross the finish line of the six mile route was Steve Gentle in a time of 40 minutes and 42 seconds. The fastest female runner was Nicola Uminski who completed the race in 52 minutes and 23 seconds.

The veteran’s prize was awarded to David Eccles, who managed to complete the race in just over 51 minutes.

Volunteers from all three sites were on hand to give out water, keep times and marshal the route.

Following a re-launch in 2004, the annual event has proved to be popular with workers at Hinkley Point.

Keeping up with the tradition of the occasion a prize for the best fancy dress entrant was awarded Hinkley Point B’s acting station director Peter Evans, who ran the race dressed as the character from EDF Energy’s television advert, Zingy.

Lee Talbot, site director of Hinkley Point A, said: “This year’s run was a great success with a good turnout from all three sites. It always proves to be a good opportunity for workers from the different organisations to join together.”

Nigel Cann, site construction director for Hinkley Point C, said: “As the construction project at Hinkley Point C progresses,
