FLAGS were raised across Dulverton, in celebration of the Exmoor Flag design competition judging day.

The eight judges had the difficult task of shortlisting nearly 300 design entries down to just four finalists to go through to the public vote.

But the choice seemed to be too tough, and as a result, five finalists were chosen.

Judges spent the afternoon selecting designs which stood out as potential Exmoor flags under expert Philip Tibbetts from the Flag Institute.

The 261 unique pieces of art filled the floor of Dulverton Town Hall and the finalists’ designs are currently being adapted to conform to The Flag Institute’s criteria.

Philip Tibbets said: “The range and quality of entries was very impressive and clearly reflects the beauty of Exmoor itself and the passion of its people.

“This beauty and passion manifested in many different ways, from the 200 plus entries, to the incredible flag flying display put on by the businesses of Dulverton in honour of the judging.

“It is these characteristics of Exmoor that have ensured a fantastic set of finalists and will further guarantee a beautiful winning flag for the area."

Public voting for the flag design opens on August 18 and closes on September 8. Votes can be made online via the Exmoor Flag website.
