DARING skydivers Joy and Darren Lake and Becky Bateman got into the record books and raised £1,500 for St Margaret’s Hospice.
Husband and wife Joy and Darren together with friend Becky jumped out of a plane at 15,000ft at Dunkeswell aerodrome, where 279 tandem jumps took place in 24 hours – beating the previous UK best of 251.
Joy said: “We were as much blown away by the generosity of the people who sponsored us as we were by what was a truly amazing experience.”
The team supported the hospice in memory of Darren’s mother, who received care from St Margaret’s.
Joy added: “We combined a birthday celebration for my husband with my life-long ambition and the good will of Becky to support a local charity which means so much to so many people.”
Sonia Bateman from St Margaret’s said: “Congratulations to all three for jumping into the record books and supporting our work.
“It costs about £10million a year to provide the best care possible for more than 3,000 patients and their families. Three-quarters of this sum comes from fundraising activities, our shops and donations.”
