WILLITON’S WW1 Remembrance project is underway this week, all gearing up to a commemorative service on Saturday (September 20).
An exhibition is taking place at the Village Parish Council offices in Killick Way each day, open from 9am-5pm.
Capt. Ross McKee has brought together the exhibition.
The centrepiece consists of a map surrounded by information cards for each of the men commemorated on the village War Memorial, and each linked to the place where they were killed in action or wounded. Alan Coomber has carried out this research.
There is also a chance to see a banner display designed by the Somerset Heritage Centre and a change to see medals, photographs, press cuttings and other artefacts from the period.
On Saturday, a parade starting at 10.15am will take place from the car park in Killick Way to the Recreation Ground.
The commemorative service and presentation will take place from 10.30am and after lunch a concert featuring the Military Wives’ Choir from Taunton and the RMB Chivenor and West Brass will take place.
