THE Taunton Deane Dragons – which have provided a colourful spectacle on local streets all summer – have been recaptured and now being cleaned and repaired.

The trail ended on Sunday and organisers are getting them ready for their next appearance.

The Taunton Deane Dragon Trail, which has involved 31 decorated creatures located around Taunton, Wellington and Wiveliscombe throughout the summer, has been led by Deane Mayor Dave Durdan.

It aims to raise money for good causes, bring people to the area and create some family fun.

The dragons will next provide a ‘guard of honour’ along the drive of Queen’s College, Taunton, as part of the Quartz arts festival between September 29 and October 11.

And a grand auction of 21 of the dragons then takes place on Sunday, October 12, at Queen’s Hall, at Queen’s College.

Organisers hope the auction will raise as much money as possible for the Mayor’s fund so anyone wanting to dig deep to buy their own dragon is invited.

The following dragons are being auctioned: Rainbow, Shifter, Swirly, Somerset Dragon, Windy, Chameleon, Aqua Dragonus, Daisy Chain Making at Vivary, Inclusion, Tauntonsaurus Rex, Sir Salix, The Circus Comes to Town, Wicket, Sandy MacDivot, Camo, Steamer, Defendamus, Accident Pronus, Orchard Scrumper, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Night Dragon.

The other dragons are being retained by their sponsors.

Remember to buy your raffle tickets for Roary the dragon – and trail merchandise – at Taunton Tourist Information Centre. The grand draw takes place on auction night.

You’re still welcome to send us your trail photos – email them, along with the details of who is in the photo – to newsdesk@countygazette.co.uk
