SCHOOLS from across Taunton and Wellington have been awarded the Activemark award in recognition of its dedication to sport.

To achieve the award schools have to meet a range of criteria, including 90% of pupils doing at least two hours of PE and sport a week, having at least the national average amount of sports on offer to pupils and that the school holds a sports day.

Tone school sports partnership development manager Dave bullock said: "The award is a testament to the good work that has been going on in the schools to promote and raise the awareness of the benefits of physical activity.

"However, there are many schools who did not achieve the award who have been working to raise the profile of sport but as yet do not teach two hours of curriculum PE.

"I would like to thank all schools for their commitment to developing school sport and promoting active lifestyles.
