HEATHFIELD Community School has won a £250 Wessex Watermark Award to help build a tools shed for its activity area.
The cash boost is the latest development in a project which began in early spring this year, when the school completed work on a log cabin, which serves as the centre for a curriculum programme based on practical activities.
It includes a large vegetable plot to give students the chance to cultivate, cook and finally sell their produce.
Brian Edmunds, the school’s Study Support Centre director, said: “Some young people find the academic curriculum challenging.
“The log cabin and its garden have helped create an environment where everyone involved has had a part to play and can see the results.
“What is just as valuable is they can see that their involvement has made something happen. Our Watermark Award will help us lay the foundations for future progress.”
