WEST Somerset’s first Healthy Living Fair takes place in Williton on Saturday to encourage people to enjoy a better way of life.

West Somerset Council is working with Williton Children’s Centre and Williton GP surgery to stage the event.

There will be a chance to find out about a range of preventative measures which could help make improvements to your lifestyle.

There will be free parking at the council car parks between 9am and noon.

The fair includes:

  • Blood pressure checks and advice on local activities from leisure group 1610.
  •  Advice on services, projects and support for over-65s, their carers and relatives from Age UK.
  •  Compass Disability Network’s support service for unpaid carers.
  • Free healthy smoothie taster sessions from Cream.
  •  Information on volunteering and quality used furniture at discount prices for those on low income from Engage West Somerset.
  • Volunteering opportunities at HomeStart West Somerset.

The event will also provide information from Magna about meals on wheels for people who are vulnerable, disabled or have long-term health needs, and live within ten miles of Watchet.

Representatives from Mind will be on hand to talk about the support available for people with mental health problems, while PALS (Pro-Active Lifestyle and Swimming Group), SASP (Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership), the Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the West Somerset Citizens’ Advice Bureau and the Somerset Waste Partnership are among other organisations represented.
