A TOTAL of £3,772.78 was collected for the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) charity – which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Tauton’s Musgrove Park Hospital - over the past week.

Donations included £3.78 from the collection pot at Honey's Hairdressers, Galmington, Taunton; £45.67 from the collection pot at the One Stop Shop, Galmington; and £148.50 from a collection at Morrisons, in Burnham.

Jane Fear handed over £1,250 raised at a coffee evening in her garden, as well as £79 in 5p coins from her, her family and friends.

Last year’s Christmas concert by the Ilminster-based South Somerset Choral Society produced £81.01; Marcia and Don’s reunion lunch for a group of past Beacon patients raised £145; and there was £22.06 from one of the group of Bridgwater's Hoopers Tours; £181 from Puriton Bingo; £105 from Julie and Mark Fewless, of Wiveliscombe, from a quiz evening.

Also presented was £4.06 from a collection pot at Momma's Café, in Burnham; £22 in 5p coins from the ladies of Boots the Chemist, in Taunton; £1,500 from Bridgwater Young Farmers; and £185.70 from the Beacon Centre, including £9 from Anne Perry in memory of Geoff Turner and £165 in 5ps.

The total raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette now stands at £451,534.78.
