QUICK-THINKING cops have arrested two men after a high-speed pursuit near Chard.

The drama unfolded when PC David Jeeves spotted a silver Land Rover Freelander towing a trailer in the Glynswood area at around 2.20am on Friday.

Sgt Rob Jameson said: “The registration plate of the trailer was known to police after a theft and when PC Jeeves turned his car around to catch up with the vehicle, it attempted to speed away.

“They drove towards Combe St Nicholas and then on to the A358 when the passenger threw a bike from the trailer on to the road in front of the police car.

“They turned right into Knowle Lane and were travelling at speeds of 60-70mph before crashing into a gate post and then into a field.

“PC Jeeves and a special police officer then arrested the two men.”

A 20-year-old man and 40-year-old man, both from Crewkerne, were arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

If you have any information about the trailer and bike, both pictured, contact PC Paul Thomas or PC Dave Hollick at Chard Police Station on 101.
