TO commemorate the centenary of the First World War, the Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire Community Rehabilitation Company has been helping to clean memorials for free.

The CRC Community Payback visited Wiveliscombe to clean the war memorials after being invited by David Bailey from the Royal British Legion.

The First World War memorial at St Andrew’s Church and the memorial at Wiveliscombe Recreation Ground were cleaned and tidied.

Mr Bailey said: “I think the group did a sterling job under difficult weather conditions.

“On behalf of the branch I’d like to thank the BGSQ CRC Community Payback team and those who came up with this brilliant idea.”

Pete Ernest, CP supervisor, said: “I wish to thank all those involved in making this a success in tribute to the World War One Centenary.”

If anyone is interested in having their memorial cleaned they should contact Mr Ernest by emailing peter.ernest@ bgsw.probation.gsi .gov.uk with ‘WW1 Memorials’ in the subject box.
