TAUNTON School is celebrating a prestigious accolade.

It has been named one of the top IB (International Baccalaureate) schools in the UK by the renowned international consultancy Education Advisers Limited.

The organisation has produced a league table from the average points compiled by sixth form students taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme in 2014.

And Taunton School has received a crystal award and certificate for being placed in the Top 40 schools with more than 20 IB students.

Headmaster, Dr John Newton, said: “We are one of the few schools in the country who have sustained a high quality of allegiance and delivery of the IB. I am very proud of that.

“With change in the air, the IB will come far more into favour and I am pleased that TS is well placed to support these pupils and parents who aspire to do this wonderful programme.”

The school’s IB Co-ordinator, Martin Bluemel, said: “The two-year IB course is a holistic programme with a particular emphasis on independent learning and a questioning approach to knowledge.

“The IB Diploma is popular with students who recognise the benefits of taking a broad range of subjects in the sixth form.

“While the IB Diploma is ideal for the most able students, the courses are accessible to all students who are well motivated and willing to work hard and gain good study skills.”

An information evening giving more information about the IB will be held on November 13.
