MR Lee Glaser, who took over as Headmaster of Taunton School on January 1, writes:

In my view, education should be thought of as a structure with five pillars – Academic, Pastoral, Co-curricular, Community and Global Outlook.

We must instil a desire to learn and create an environment which allows every pupil to maximise their own academic achievement regardless of ability.

But education is not only about academic standards.

Pastoral care is vital. The myriad of social pitfalls our children face as they grow up is increasing exponentially with the further development of social media and other pressures.

Our co-curricular programme is crucial and we must aim for excellence in our provision and in our performances.

Finally, we have a strong community on which we must build while a global outlook is essential if our children are to succeed in the modern era.

This is an outstanding school but standing still is not an option. I am therefore determined to improve all aspects of our students’ education.
