A LUCKY Heathfield School student will fulfil his dream of working on a conservation project in Borneo this summer, thanks to the help of a local company.

Matt Olie , 15, will spend four weeks in Borneo in July, helping to replace trees in a rainforest which is being stripped for wood and palm oil.

An environmental consultancy based in Wiveliscombe – Aardvark EM Ltd – has offered to part-fund his trip to the generous tune of £500.

Matt, from North Curry, said: “I’m really pleased with the support from Aardvark towards my trip , and while I still need to raise more money to help get me there this is a really important bit of help.”

As well as helping with the conservation project, Matt will also help out at a local school and experience living in the rain forest.

Mark Clayton, managing director of Aardvark, added: “Matt came in and presented to us and was enthusiastic and engaging and we could see ho w it fitted well with the wider environmental ethos we have as a business.

“He also had more of an effect than he realised, with my family no w trying to give up palm oil products, which is much harder than it sounds as it can be found in over 700 daily used products!”

Five other students from Heathfield have signed up for the trip , which has been organised by Camps International.

Natasha Rand, SLT for Enterprise & Careers, said: “We are really pleased for Matthew and if any other organisation would lik e to help him or any of the rest of the team with the trip then they can contact the school and we would be happy to work with your business as part of our enterprising business partnership.”
