TAUNTON’S Richard Huish College has four finalist apprentices and employers in the Somerset Apprenticeship Awards 2015.

Somerset County Gazette:

Rebecca Bailey is shortlisted for Higher Level Apprentice of the Year after being nominated by her employer, Acorn solicitors, where she began as receptionist/legal secretary and is now assistant office manager, mentoring new apprentices.

She impressed her employer by managing an office move, reducing stationery and postage costs and helping deliver marketing and time-saving methods.

Somerset County Gazette:

Sumona Haque is nominated for the Reaching your Potential Award – she has progressed from not speaking English when she arrived in this country from Bangladesh three years ago, to gaining 10 GCSEs at grades A to C.

She completed a traineeship at Huish, undertaking her placement with Compass Disability and she is now doing a business and administration apprenticeship with Blackbrook Surgery as she plans to become a medical secretary.

Somerset County Gazette:

Taunton-based Evosite, experts in eCommerce solutions who developed Dragons Den’s Deborah Meaden’s media-rich website, are in the running in the New to Apprenticeships category after taking on three IT apprentices in nine months.

They now want to recruit even more apprentices, who they hope will stay with the business after being trained in website developer roles.

Digital-i, which supplies broadcasters and production companies with ratings and reporting solutions, are nominated for Small Employer of the Year after taking on six advanced IT apprentices, with plans for two more.

The awards, part of Grow Somerset Talent, take place on Friday, March 13, at the Holiday Inn, Taunton, with the winners put forward to the South West Apprenticeship Awards finals later in the year.
