WHEN Chris Blazey, head teacher at St Dubricius First School, Porlock, pledged "an intensive car polish" as a lot in an auction of promises, he didn't think the winning bidder would be the local undertaker.
And this week, Chris armed himself with a bottle of polish and a cloth and carried out his solemn undertaking by polishing the best hearse belonging to funeral director Vernon Rush.
Mr Rush said: "I know Chris is a good sport so I couldn't resist making sure I was the winning bidder for his car polishing pledge."
Chris added: "I was amazed when I found out Vernon had won the bid, and I am pleased to polish his hearse in return for his generous support."
The auction was held by the Friends of St Dubricius to raise money for the school.
