THE Co-op in Priorswood Place, Taunton is closed today, (April 1), following a fire which completely destroyed the storage area at the back of the store.
Six fire appliances from Taunton and Wellingon were sent to tackle the blaze after the fire service received numerous calls at 7.04pm.
Crews fought the fire until after 8pm using hose reels, a safety jet, breathing apparatus and a thermal image camera.
A neighbouring property was ventilated and crews remained on the scene for damping down until 10pm.
The roof of the storage area had to be stripped.
No one was hurt in the fire and the police say the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
