A SECTION of Staplegrove Road will be closed to drivers from April 27 for five weeks as the next phase of work starts on the Northern Inner Distributor Road (NIDR).

The NIDR is a multi-million pound project commissioned by Somerset County Council to provide a link from Priory Avenue to Staplegrove Road, easing congestion in the town centre and on Priorswood Road.

Work started in October 2013, on the mile-long road which includes two bridges, a replacement footbridge, and a roundabout.

Work beginning on the 27 will see the new road connected to Staplegrove Road via the new roundabout near Chip Lane.

Somerset County Council say that to carry out the work safely and with the minimum of disruption, it will be necessary to close a section of Staplegrove Road between Richmond Road and Chip Lane to traffic.

Vehicles will not be able to travel north beyond Richmond Road or south beyond Chip Lane, although access will be maintained at all times to all properties.

Shop owners in Chip Lane say their businesses will still be open during the work.

The diversion in place looks like an epic drive for some poor drivers.
