A fire at a hotel,  suspected arson after a car was found burning and the specialist decontamination unit called out over suspected asbestos after a garage fire on Laxton Road, Taunton, were among the call outs for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service over the weekend.

They included:

  • A chimney fire at The Anchor Hotel in Porlock Weir on Friday (April 24). Crews from Porlock, Minehead and Taunton attended the incident shortly before 6pm and removed unstable chimney pots from the roof and extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet, chimney kit and safety at height equipment.

 

  • A kitchen fire at a property on Cheddon Road in Taunton on Saturday (April 25). Crews from Taunton attended the incident just after 1am and found that a fire within an oven was out on arrival. An inspection was carried out and a ventilation fan was used to remove cooking fumes and smoke. 

 

  • A chimney fire at Meare Green, Stoke St Gregory on Saturday (April 25) at 11.52am. Chimney gear and small tools were used to extinguish the fire. 

 

  • A deliberate car fire on Bridgwater Road in Taunton on Sunday, (April 26) just before 11pm. A car was found well alight against a hedge.

 

  • A garage fire at Laxton Road, Taunton on Sunday, (April 26) just before 11.30pm. Breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet were used to extinguish the fire. The environmental protection unit was also called out due to suspected asbestos for decontamination of crews.
