ARE you prepared to sleep out under the stars so that others don’t have to?

If so, a Taunton charity is looking for people to take part in a fundraising event in June which relates to the work the charity do and the one thing they strive to end: rough sleeping.

The Big Sleep Out, is being organised by the Taunton Association for the Homeless (TAH) on June 5 at Taunton Town Football Club.

The idea is for participants to get sponsored to sleep outside for just one night in order to raise money and awareness for TAH so they can continue to prevent homelessness in Taunton and the surrounding areas.

On the evening there will be some food and refreshments, some live music for entertainment, and then lights out.

Participants will find a spot to sleep with just a cardboard box for comfort and sleeping bags for warmth, and settle down for the night until they’re awakened for a free breakfast.

Rosie Hather, fundraiser at TAH and organiser of The Big Sleep Out said: “Although we do not wish to represent homelessness, it will show some of the harsh realities that a rough sleeper faces each night.

“But we promise to keep all of our participants safe, warm, watered and fed.

“The evening will show exactly what TAH are working to stop. We hope for the event to be well-attended and successful, please come along and join us.”

You’ll need a sleeping bag, warm clothing, hat and gloves and money for food and drinks.

Sponsorship forms will be provided as will help to set up a Just Giving page and those taking part will need to raise a minimum of £50 each.
