THE people of Chard have been doing their bit for the Taunton-based cancer charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) over the past week.

Donations from the town included £410 from the Barleymow's Farm Shop and Restaurant from an Easter egg raffle; £64.44 from the business's collection pot; a £100 donation from John Wareham and £27 in 5p coins from Joanne McNulty.

SUR, which raises money to equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital, also received £28.34 from the collection pot at Wembdon Post Office and Store; and £112.05, including £108.05 in 5ps and £25 from Norman Tomkies, of Street.

The week's total of £741.83 means £522,879.43 has been raised since SURE linked up with the County Gazette.
