A TOTAL of £283.60 in 5p coins was handed over to Taunton-based cancer charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) by Mrs Smith, of Bridgwater.

Other 5p collections to the County Gazette-backed charity, which buys equipment for the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, were £113.50 from the Beacon Centre, £75.70 collected at a B&B run by Mrs Plummer, £293.10 from the Beacon Centre, £75.70 from Tower House B&B, in Bridgwater, £30 from the Hard of Hearing Club, £30 from Taunton Bowling Club, £13 from Nora and £13.10 from David Croom.

Collection boxes included £82.71 from Bishops Lydeard Newsagents, £7.40 from Staplegrove Hairdressers, £30.98 from the Londis, in Taunton Road, Bridgwater, £21.17 from orchard shopping centre, Taunton, and £12.04 from Thornton’s card shop, Bridgwater.

There was also a £100 donation from Brian Teague.

The total raised since SURE linked up with the County Gazette now stands at £525,016.
