AN ELDERLY woman has been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with leg injuries following a serious crash in Hemyock.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision near Ford Street at 2.30pm.

The woman was trapped in her car and had to be removed by the fire service.

The driver of the other vehicle, believed to be a tipper vehicle, is not said to be hurt.

The road at Hemyock is still closed due to the accident and it is affecting traffic on Monument Hill.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two appliances from Wellington and the Rescue tender from Taunton were mobilised to reports of an RTC.

"On arrival, crews discovered an RTC involving two vehicles, one private car and one HGV. One elderly female was trapped in the private vehicle.

"Crews then made pumps three for extra cutting equipment so a further appliance from Taunton was sent.

"Crews used stabilisation equipment and cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle. They then used the hydraulic ram to push back the front seat to assist with the removal.

The female was removed from the vehicle and left in the hands of the Ambulance service. The area was made safe."
