SHOPPERS who struggle to get to the shops will soon be able to use a free transport service backed by the traders of Taunton.

The Wessex Tourist Board is launching the service after Somerset County Council last month pulled out of running the Slinky bus which ferried shoppers between their homes and the various supermarkets.

Chairman Michael Davey said: "This has caused a lot of anguish for the more vulnerable in the area.

"It has also been a worry to traders who could have suffered a loss of trade.

"As of July 1, people in the central area of Taunton will be able to book the courtesy free vehicle."
