Murder investigation after man and woman found dead in Somerset home

Formal identification procedures have not yet taken place, but police believe the bodies are of a 42-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man and have been named locally as married couple Kevin and Tracey Baker who had three young children.

Police are still investigating how these two people died and post-mortem examinations were being carried out on Monday by a Home Office pathologist with results expected to be announced yesterday (Tuesday) as the News went to press.

Senior Investigating Officer Andy Mott said: “We’re treating this as an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with these deaths.

“We have specially trained family liaison officers who are supporting the families involved.

“There continues to be increased police activity in the area but we’d like to reassure residents that there’s no risk to the wider community.”

Cllr Andrew Turpin, who has lived in the village for 45 years and represents Tatworth and Forton at South Somerset District Council, said: “I’ve never known anything like this to happen here – it is totally foreign to us and it is difficult to know what words to say.

“But this has shaken all of us in the village and has left us devastated as a community.

We are, through the local school, quite cohesive as a village and we are like a big family which just intensifies the loss.”

Cllr Turpin added: “Our thoughts go out to the children and the impact it has on the rest of the school.

“It is going to take a long time to get over this, but people will rally round. It is just so terribly sad.”

One person, who lives in the Wellings Close area, told the News on Monday: “I can’t believe it. They were a lovely family. Just feel so sad for the children.”

Another neighbour added: “You never expect this sort of thing to happen so near to you. It is terrible.”
