ORGANISERS of a church fayre were left red faced after they accidentally sold two paintings entered in a picture competition.

An unnamed member of the congregation at St George's Church, Wilton, in Taunton, entered three paintings in the contest on Saturday.

Unfortunately the artist was away for the weekend and organisers innocently put the pictures on a stall for sale, with two of them snapped up before the mistake was discovered.

The vicar, the Rev James Clapham, said one of the paintings has been traced and returned, with the buyer being reimbursed.

He added: "The organisers would be very grateful if any County Gazette readers could provide any information that would enable us to find the third picture and buy it back.

"The painting in question is a wooded landscape on art paper without a frame.

"It has the name and contact details of the owner on the back. The picture has a lot of time and personal memories invested in it."

If you can help, contact Mr Clapham at St George’s Church, Wilton Vicarage, Fons George, Taunton, or call 01823-284253.
