WEST Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger, popped in to meet Year 8 pupils at Minehead Middle School and was presented with their ‘world leader’ designs, which are now on their way to Parliament as part of the ‘Send My Friend to School’ campaign to raise awareness of the 58 million children who are still not receiving any primary school education.

Send My Friend to School is run by the UK coalition of the Global Campaign for Education and brings together thousands of children across the UK to speak up for the right to education, and remind world leaders of their promise that all children should get the chance to go to school.

It has members in more than 100 countries around the world and in the UK over twenty charities and teaching unions work together in favour of education for all as the GCE UK coalition.

Mchelle James, Head of Year 8 at Minehead Middle School, said: “During Unicef’s Day for Change, which the school has always supported, we focussed on several global issues that affect the lives of children.

"Our pupils have been brilliant with all their campaigning and fund-raising to support and publicise several issues to help improve the lives of children worse off than them. We are really proud of them.

"Particular mentions must go to Year 6, 7 and 8 children, Tavey See, Ellie Scyner, Freyja Harding, Freya Jenkinson, Sadie Broadbent, Jack Griffin, Guy Milton-Jenkins, Sophie Wood, Henry Murrell and Isabel Ambler, for their commitment and involvement in bringing these issues to the attention of our community.”
