Winds are expected to increase further toay, according to the Met Office, becoming very gusty with a risk of gales over exposed coasts and hills.
The Yellow warning of wind means that the public should be aware of the potential for some minor disruption to outdoor activities and difficult driving conditions.
Inland gusts of 40-45 mph are possible, whilst gusts may exceed 50 mph along the north coasts of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, and also Bristol Channel coasts of south Wales.
A Met Office spokesman said that there is some uncertainty over the peak wind strength.
Caravaners have been warned that driving conditions may be difficult for towing vehicles.
The warning is in place until 9pm this evening.
