TAUNTON Rugby Football Club (TRFC) has announced that they are to become ambassadors to local charity Stand Against Violence (SAV).

SAV aims to prevent violence through educating young people and was founded in memory of murdered student Lloyd Fouracre.

TRFC will be supporting SAV by offering their venue to the charity for events and activities, host a variety of fundraisers, and support the 10th anniversary event on the weekend of September 26.

SAV's logo will feature on this seasons kit and an SAV flag will be displayed on the pitch.

Adam Fouracre, CEO of SAV said: "I am extremely grateful to the TRFC for their offer of support by becoming ambassadors for our cause.

"I hope we can do some great things together as we go forward this year."

Taunton RFC held their annual sponsors evening last Wednesday.

The club took the opportunity to showcase the improvements that have been made over the summer before the season starts on September 5.

It was also the first time they made their announcement about their new ambassador status to Stand Against Violence.

The sponsors evening took on a very different format to previous years as new and existing sponsors were invited to enjoy wine and cheese tasting, whilst the three categories of players were auctioned to prospective sponsors.

This enabled everybody to enter a closed bid for the player they wished to sponsor.

The categories were Stayers (players that started their journey with Taunton RFC last year and are continuing their commitment for another year) Newbies (players starting their journey) and Stalwarts (players who have continued their commitment for three years our more.)

The evening was a huge success, with every player gaining sponsorship.

Taunton RFC will be hosting a series of matches this year in aid of SAV.

The first match will be on September 26 and anyone wearing red coming through the gate wearing SAV's colour then TRFC will donate proceeds of the gate to the charity.

TRFC would like to thank all the sponsors for their generosity, ongoing support and for making the evening such a success.

They would also like to thank Philippe Messy from PM Wines for supplying the wine and Hugh Duder from County Stores for supplying the Cheese.
