A BAKE off competition was among the highlights of Clayhidon church fete on Saturday, with Thelma Blackmore winning the Victoria sandwich class and dog show organiser Freddie Parker prevailing in the muffin tin signature challenge with marshmallow-topped sheep.

The event, organised by the Friends of St Andrew's in aid of the church and the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment and opened by parish council chairman Richard Kallaway, included a flower festival.

Entry fees to the dog show, which included handsomest hound, prettiest pooch, obedience and agility classes, went to the Ann Conway Trust which helps people coping with brain hernias.

Children’s fun included an egg and spoon and sack races, plus welly throwing and there was also a display of classic cars, skittles, a raffle, stalls games and refreshments.

A total of £1,150 was raised.
