A World War II Spitfire which has feature in Pearl Harbour and Doctor Who was just one of many attractions on show at the Battle of Britain Living History Show at the weekend.

The event, which ran on on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August30, also featured a Hurricane WWII plane that was built for the Battle of Britain film.

Graham Adlam, the living history show's organiser, said: "The spitfire has been in Pearl Harbour, Ben Affleck has sat in it, and it has been in Doctor Who. The Spitfire is the only one around with a running Merlin engine.

"We also had military vehicles. There was lots of stuff there."

The biggest crowd pleaser was the weekend's battle re-enactments and the model aircraft simulating an attack on tanks.

Despite the bad weather of the weekend, Graham has already started making plans for 2016.

"Next year they are going to build some Lancasters. We are going to simulate the Dambusters raid," Graham said.

The Lancaster bombers will be fitted with bombs and pyrotechnics and when the damn is hit it was explode, unleashing a pool of water held behind.

Of the show's battle re-enactments, Graham said: "It is done realistically, in keeping with the tactics that were used at the time. We are a serious show and we go for things that are historically accurate.

"We are getting it right rather than doing it for fun."

Despite the poor weather, Graham said there was one story that really brightened up his weekend.

"We had a large group of disabled people come along. We spoke to one of the carers, who said that a man had been severely depressed. He hadn't spoken for three months and he started talking about the things on show. That made up for the poor weather."
