A LOCAL politician has been appointed chairman of the governors at the school where he met his wife.

Mark Edwards, who runs a sales and marketing business and is deputy leader at Taunton Deane Council, also put his and Charlotte's three children through Queen's College, Taunton.

Mr Edwards said: "Queen’s College has always been far more than a school - the depth of its co-curricular activity is vast, the school motto, 'we learn not for school, but for life' being at the very heart of the ideology of the entire college.

"I will work hard alongside the headmaster, the senior leadership group and my fellow governors to make sure that Queen’s maintains its very high standards, ensuring it educates students, and equips them the with wider skills needed in an ever changing world."

Headmaster Chris Alcock said: "Mark is Queen’s through and through and is also well known in the area. It is an exciting time for the school."
